Frances May Brand Identity

Role: Art Director

Agency: OMFGCo
Creative Director: Jeremy Pelley
Designer: Ed Martin
Founded in 2008, Frances May is a directional men’s and women’s boutique located in Portland, OR, originally created as a joint venture between grandmother, Connie Codding and granddaughter, Pamela Baker-Miller. The name for the shop is in honor of Connie’s mother, Frances May, who was a school teacher. The visual language draws inspiration from vintage school supplies, but with a bold, contemporary twist.

The updated identity reinforces the idea that fashion should be a celebration. It combines a bold, nuanced logotype—updating and elevating the logo while keeping its original spirit and inspiration—with a refined custom font, and secondary “yes” mark that speaks to the joy of finding your next favorite outfit.

I’m a brand designer, illustrator and art director. I appreciate simplicity, honesty, craft, and most importantly, work that has an imperfect human quality to it. I thrive when working within complex brand systems and have an interest in strategy and writing.
